Highway 401
Woodstock

Highways 401 & 410
Mississauga

Hwy 403 is a freeway that, in effect, "loops" off of Hwy 401 between Woodstock and Mississauga, serving Brantford, Hamilton, Burlington and Oakville in the process.  For years, Hwy 403 consisted of two separate segments, as it was not co-signed with the QEW between Burlington and Oakville.  Finally, in 2003, Hwy 403 shields appeared along the QEW.  Now that it is multiplexed with the QEW, Hwy 403 is one continuous highway.

Western Terminus:

Current:

The Western Terminus of Hwy 403 is at Hwy 401 (Exit 235) in Woodstock.  This interchange is a partial one, with only two possible maneuvers: from Hwy 403 West to Hwy 401 West, and from Hwy 401 East to Hwy 403 East.

In this picture is the view from the MIddletown Line overpass of Hwy 403 looking west toward the terminal interchange with Hwy 401.  Once it crosses Hwy 401, Hwy 403 West actually travels for nearly 1 km before it finally reaches its endpoint at the merge with Hwy 401 West.

These three pictures show the approach signage located along Hwy 401 East leading up to the starting point of Hwy 403 East.  Photo #2 features the first sign announcing the upcoming junction with Hwy 403 in 1.5 km.  Photo #3 highlights the overhead advance exit sign for Hwy 403.  Just beyond this sign gantry, a fourth eastbound lane opens up on the right side, which becomes exit only for Hwy 403.  The right-center lane becomes a dual-directional lane, offering access to both Hwy 401 and Hwy 403.  Photo #4 shows the sign gantry in place at the beginning of Hwy 403 East, as it splits off from Hwy 401 East.  At the time this picture was taken, Hwy 401 narrowed from six lanes to four just after the Hwy 403 interchange.  As a result of a reconstruction project, the third eastbound lane is being extended for another 4 km to just beyond the Oxford Road 2 (former Hwy 2) interchange.  In fact, Scott Steeves reports that supports are being put into place for new sign gantry structures that are going up to replace all of the above signs, in conjunction with the widening of Hwy 401.
